Fixing a chip in a 77PMC

Well,

I kept my 77PMC and was thinking of trying to do some touch ups on her. Wondering if I could do this without sanding down per say, but filling in the deeper gashes with a substance that could then be painted over and clearcoated over. Any ideas? Oh, and I know it gives it character and you think I should leave it as it is blah blah blah. I would if it were on the front, but because this is on the back, it won't hurt the appearance anyhow and it will be good practice if I want to repair my DNA that's on its way.

That guitar has extensive damage and I think you could make it worse by trying to repair it but that is your perogative. Just my 2 cents. I forgot to say that repairs would also affect the value if you plan on selling them again, specially, the DNA. If it were me I'd let be.

Glad you kept her.
Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to help you fix her!

Re: Fixing a chip in a 77PMC

Hi,

I bought a GMC some weeks ago (thanks Jeapson, again) which had some bad damages. I thought about going to a luthier but in the end I ended up fixing it myself.

I decided to just repair the clear coat because on a MC any sort of color repair would look strange because you can never restore the original look.
So I read in forums etc. and decided to use the "glue method" because I really just wanted to prevent the damages from growing.

The result seems pretty good to me so far, except ther is still some air under the original coat where the glue didn't run.

Here are 2 pictures (before and after) of a large damage on the back/adge.

If you just want to save the rest of the finish, you might go this way too. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, I think I didn't ruined it and the damges are sealed
