Floyd or Edge Pro

opinion poll

Schaller Floyd Rose (will drop in the route)

Edge Pro Needs Routing

the edge pro keeps still me original ibanez and I can get it in cosmo

the floyd keeps me outta my wallet cause i can drop that in myself (yet i am still not sure what the stud anchors size are in those edge 3's 10mm? 11mm?)

I would like to know the pros and cons please as this is my first tremolo equipped guitar in a VERY long time...

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

Schaller Floyd Rose:

Cros;
no routing needed,
better trem arm(imho),

Cons;
dosen't hold tuning as well as the EP,
no locking studs.

Edge Pro:

Pros;
no need to cut ball end's off,
better tuning stability(imho),
better flutter(imho),

Cons;
Routing needed,
Trem arm becomes loose after use,
no locking studs.

but you can put locking studs in the ep so that kinda fixes than and the trem arm problem is an easy fix but routing is lame and I thought that the smaller trems like the schaller and ofr had better flutter?

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

Get a Gotoh licensed Floyd Rose, comes with locking studs (Ibanez have them make their MIJ trems) has the best trem arm design ever, and is as good, maybe be better than OFR/Schaller, and cheaper. Also feels quite similar to an Edge trem.

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

its a playability thing for me. The floyd design involves the bar standing too high away from the guitar body, so you cannot hold onto the bar with two or three unused fingers while continuing to play normally.

With the edge pro, and other ibanez floating bridges, the bar height and angle are the perfect compromise between range of bar movement and comfort while playing. Some instances when playing, you might be coming up to a part of a song where the bar is used but there is no convienient time to reach for it, so it is better to pick it up a little earlier and hang onto it whilst playing so it is in your grasp already when the time comes in the song to use it. The floyd design makes this very difficult like on all the Jacksons and Schecters i have played. With the Ibanez designs - thanks to a little R and D on their part, this isn't an issue.

Depends on how important the whammy bar is in your playing. If you just dive bomb on it occasionally, then don't spend a fortune. If you do lots of scoops, vibrato and more subtle stuff too, then kit yourself out with the best money can buy.

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

Also, just look at the two bridges in your photos compared to eachother!

The edge pro is styled and has FAR FAR more going on in its design and the amount of production ibanez have put into it. The schaller on the other hand is basic and minimal, all square, flat shapes. The edge pro is an altogether higher quality part and its low profile and nice styling do less to affect the lines of your guitar.

Jesus, does any other mass manufacturer put as much effort into their guitars as Ibanez?

Another interesting point is that Hugh Manson puts chrome ibanez edge pros into Matt Bellamy's vibrato equiped custom guitars. worth noting.

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

On second thoughts Parker make some good alternative designs but they aren't as good in function as a system including a locking nut.

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

ok has anybody ever ordered from warmoth before?
they are supposedly selling waqt cheaper than everyone! ya knwo if its too good to be true....

Schaller PT # 1370 No Price listed. This is the manufacturer's web site in Germany

Warmoth Direct Pt # SFB $175.00 I am finding this price a little too hard to believe it way cheap

ALL PARTS SKU: SB_0290-003 $300.00

STEW MAC part # 1270-B Black $236.39

I don't think I am allowed to post links??

also good point on the edge pro Satchriossi I do like the look but I don't play live, its mostly studio stuff... I photoshopped some different bridges into a xiphos the schaller floyd still looked ok in black chrome was a bit much however

Thats an interesting comment, they put effort into marketing mainly...building what people want like most guitar companies.

The factory requires no real effort, CNC machines do most of the work.

What production does ibanez put into the edge pro? they may have designed it but don't gotoh actually manufacture them?

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

I'd take the Schaller. I've never been a fan of the Edge Pro. I don't know how to describe the feeling, but the EP seems "unbalanced" to me.

Re: Floyd or Edge Pro

You need to get a Edge Lo-Pro it's better than the Edge Pro, waylay is right the Edge Pro doesnt feel that good, I'm getting my lo-pro fitted tomorrow.

Schaller is a good floyd aswell, I own one on my other guitar but I still prefer the lo-pro out of all three.
