Floyd Rose Pro Vs Lo-TRS2 in an RG450Bk

Well guys throw me the pros and cons here. I'd love to drop in an Edge but the routing would drive me insane. So i've decided to go with the Floyd Rose Pro. Which locks on the top like a TRS2 but i hear is MUCH more stable and i need to switch from black hardware to chrome. And does anyone know where i can get one? SO far i've found the Fender liscensed Floyd Rose Pro on musicians friend for $179.

Check evil bay and have your local guitar shops call around to see who might have one. Alot of these stay in the (Cases) lol for awhile so you may be able to pick one up around the way. The floyd pro is quite functional, but if I was gonna go all out and upgrade, try installing the edge tremolo bar and attachment, so you have the best of both worlds. And maybe getting new bushings and trem post made by ibanez would be a major improvement since Ibanez post have the little locking mechanism in them.

I've heard good things of the Schaller floyd.
Great knife edges apparently....whether it'll fit your rout I don't know, but may be worth investigsting.

pros and cons from my POV:

lo-trs and all takeuchi trems(jackson trems as well):
they feel pretty weak compared to a floyd rose original(FRO). these are stamped style baseplates and are not as dense as the FRO. their baseplates lack the sustain and flutter of a FRO and their tuning is not as smooth. if you have one of these trems, tho a FRO is a drop in replacement, although i recommend the FRO bushings.

schaller: this is the same exact trem as the FR2 of the present. the old FR2's were like the single locking trems on the rg200 series. the newer ones act alot like the FRO, but are cast and not forged like the FRO. this led to stripping of intonation screw holes in the baseplate in older FR2's. these have great flutter and will retrofit into the takeuchi trems as well as a FRO route. these are not as long as the FRO(barrel screws) and will fit in tighter, more shallow routes like those on hamers and some older BC Rich. these are especially good for fluttering due to their "seperate" knife edges, thin and surgical(sorta). great mass, too as the baseplates are thicker than the FRO, but not as dense. the new kramer FR lisc. are based around this trem as well as the dean's. they cannot touch the schaller/FR2, tho.

FRO and FR pro: the next best thing to the edges and lo-pro edges(too bad these are proprietary). good mass and sustain. i love the way they both flutter when properly setup. have never had a problem with stripped out screws anywhere on this type of trem. the pro has a more traditional type feel due to the lower fine tuners and has a killer flutter. these are the two top of the line trems i have played that do not say ibanez on them. will retrofit in any floyd lisc. route although the FRP has to be recessed due to the lowered finer tuners.

One little add-on:

A few of the recent Floyd Rose II's I've come across have *not* been Schaller(german) made.. They were considerably cheaper looking and feeling than a Schaller Lic. Floyd Rose..

I have a theory that Schaller doesn't want Floyd selling their regular trem as a Floyd II, and so refused to make them..

The 'Pro' is a very nice trem.. I had one on my 'Mutant' Jackson, worked great, lots of flutter.. Unfortunately, the guitar just didn't work for me.. One word of caution, make sure it has the short block already installed on it if you get one.. It has an odd screw spacing for the spring block, that won't take the short regular OFR block.. I never was able to get a short block for mine, and the current owner of the trem had a machine shop cut down the existing block..

Very informative Rich. I've found a local music store that has a Floyd Rose Pro. For $179 (Their price $240 but matching to Musicians friends price) in chrome that i'm droppin in one week from today. It's not a German floyd rose. But it is the exact design (according to everyone i've talked to) from fender. It does not have fenders name anywhere on it and does say floyd on it. So i'm going to try and put a little more research into it. If any of you guys can help me out by finding anything i can't i'd love to hear it. Thanks alot.

the schaller and the floyd rose 2, are "ALMOST IDEntical" the old floyd rose 2, still doesnt use the same alloy, but its quite close, and they key thing is they play the same. Basically the most mass you can get as the bottom isnt hollowed out like on a edge or lo pro. the downside is the bar angle, I never liked the angle it set at. Of course you can rebend this or add a edge bar attachment and your good to go. I havent had much experience with the floyd pro, but it looks to be a good design if it has the same alloy as the original floyd.

Fender has had the rights to distrubute the 'Floyd Rose' Trems for years now.. The Floyd Pro from Fender is made in Germany, there should be a stamp under the trem by the pivot points..

It's a 'real' one, not a Fender made copy or anything..

Will a FRO or FRII fit the Japenese made PGM 30?

Hey folks.. New to this board.. Since I coudlnt' afford a Jem, I decided on the PGM 30 because I liked the reverse headstock, and I'm going to stick in a dimarzio or Rio Grande bridge pickup, but I'd like to get a floyd that will fit as I hear this one is junk? So if I get a real floyd, do I need to know the nut size, etc? I mean do I need to know anything besides the fact that I want a real floyd like I used to have on my American made Kramer (Really ESP Made I guess) neck thru.. ? It had a killer floyd on it and would flutter great..

Thanks so much.. and anyone that owns the PGM30, please tell me about it.. What do you think of the pickups, etc.. Mine is in layaway and I get it next Friday.. Can't wait man!

I recently dropped an original floyd into my rg470

its great and all, but has less surface area than teh lo-trs, leaving lots of routed but unused space. Doesnt bother me at all though.

However, the trem block on the original is around 7mm longer than the one on teh TRS-es. Im chopping a hole in the trem cavity cover sometime, to allow for the longer trem block.

Doesn't my PGM 30 have a Low TRS 2?

doesn't the PGM 30 / 2003 model have the Jap made TRS II ? What's the difference may I ask? I'm thinking of sticking the original floyd and hoping it will work.. bushings and all if possible..

Thanks
