Floyd Rose Question

Hey all...I recently got my first Ibanez and Floyd Rose and I'm going to be chaning the strings and clenaing up the guitar so I started looking around for how to do this but on all the sites I've found one of the first steps is to loosen the clamp screw with an allen wrench but on my floyd rose at the ends of the clamps screws there's no nut opening. It's just a clear opening and I can see the ball end of the string (also on those floyd it says to cut the ball ends off) Now after looking in the stewmac catalog and at the parts I'm quessing mine is a floyd rose II. Is this correct? Or did they set-up my floyd wrong? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What model Ibanez is it?

Here is a picture of a Floyd Rose II mounted on a Mexican Strat.

If you get a chance post the Stew Mac part number so we can have a look

ok, don't mean to be a jerk, but can you try rephrase and try to punctuate your questions? all i can gather is that you're having problems with the floyd rose trem and it's locking nut. can't figure out what the problem is.

Quite simple.

You have a RG2xx guitar on your hands.
The trem on that one doesn't lock at the bridge, instead the strings go trough the bridge.
Do not cut the ball ends off because you won't be able to use the strings if you do.
If you have fine tuning and a locking nut on the guitar the trem in question is ILT1 or a derivative.
Nothing to do with a Floyd Rose trem, it just looks similar.

Just unscrew the locking nut and procede to change the strings one by one as you would on a normal guitar.
Be sure to use the same gauge strings, otherwise it'll take you hours to tune up to pitch.

Remember to stretch your strings properly before you lock the nut.

MichaelQ,
One tip, if you haven't already, try using Fender "bullet" strings with that bridge. They really help with tuning stability as they don't get caught up in the string channels of the bridge like normal ball end strings.

I did this with a student's RG and it worked like a charm. I worked the bar pretty hard and it held tuning *far* better. I know this wasn't your question but I thought it might help.
