Footswitch for a marshall VS 232

I would like to build a footswitch for my combo, would it be as easy as connecting a stereo 1/4" cable to two switches one for the chorus and one for the channel and throwing them in a metal box? Does anyone here have any experience building pedals, or know where to point me towards?
