For those among us who build guitars...

How would you go about setting up a bridge? I've got a Carvin 22-fret neck (this), and I'm going to be going with either a flat-mount bridge, or a stopbar/tune-o-matic.
My questions are:
-How would you measure the distance so that the bridge is placed properly?
-What would you measure from (and to on the bridge)?
-How would you make sure it's properly aligned?

Also I'm looking at two different bridges here, both from Carvin. One is flat mount string-through-body (found here), and the other is a tune-o-matic/stopbar (found here and here). Which would you recommend and why? Is one easier to install than the other?

Also, I understand pretty well how pickup rings work (both of my electrics have them), but I don't know much about direct mounting these suckers, and it's something I'm considering doing. How exactly is this done (even just a diagram would help)?

Is there anything else I need to know about any of this stuff?

This is all for my summer project axe...

Hey Reaper!
Well, as for where to place the bridge, first you need to know what scale that neck is made to work with. If it's a 25.5 inch scale, then you'll want there to be 25.5 inches between the nut and the saddles/tailpiece { wherever the string touch first on the bridge }. As for how to get it lined up properly, i had the same question recently! If i understand correctly, you'll want to draw a perfectly straight line down the center of the body, and line your bridge/neck up like that.
I'd say these are questions better suited for the Project Guitar forum, myself. Check it out! Projectguitar.com .
Hope this helps,
Ben
