Forgive my ignorance, but.. - Has anyone ever tried this?

I found this on the Jackson site:
"Here's a trick I use for the dropped D tuning. Before I lock the locknut, I tune the fine tuner all the way to the baseplate and retune the string to E. Then I just detune the fine tuner and it's a workingman's D tuner. "

I am getting a RG620 with Lo-Pro. Has anyone tried this? Sorry.. it's just that I am not familiar with floating trems..

I have used this trick before with the Edge and Lo-Pro. The only draw back is, the other strings go slightly out of tune when you drop the E to D.

Jacksons use the OFR that, IMO, has a stiffer float. Using this trick on a Jackson works better.

Turr-
I do that on ALL my guitars (all LoPro equipped). *As Jimm said, when you drop to D, the other strings go out of tune a little, but it's worth it (to me).

I've been doing it for a while now (since 1987) and have gotten pretty good at dropping to D. *Not as fast as a guy with a hard-tail-equipped Les P*ul , but pretty damn fast.

I'll also agree that the Original Floyd Rose (OFR) trem has a stiffer feel than the LoPro. *Try out the trick. *If it works for you, great; if not, not a penny lost and no one got hurt. :-)

That's where those old Ibanez back stops really come in handy. You can set them for just enough tension to support the drop to D and it doesn't stiffen the trem too much. It does stop you from being able to flutter though. But I think its worth it if you have to drop D live between songs or even during a song.

Sorry, my hard drive crashed but I got a warranty replacement. I was offline for a long time. It was kind of like a retreat. Pleasant in an outdoorsy way.
