Fret Buzz!! Please Help Ive done Everything!! Nothing Works!!

So i have a kramer 1984 (the evh model with the banana headstock) and for some reason the 9th fret will not stop buzzing! i have the truss rod perfectly adjusted, but when ever i try to lower the action to like 2mm(measured at the 12 fret) it starts to buzz. it doesnt buzz when i play the note though, it only buzzes when i bend the note.. i can play with it fine but whenever i bend it like a full step it dies out and buzzes!! its driving me crazy! the fret looks level with all the others and the neck is not warped, ive heard of other people with kramer 1984s that have had the same problem but they sent theres to a tech and got it fixed, i called my music shop and they said it would cost around $100 to get it setup, and to add $20 cause its a floyd rose, theres no way im going to pay that for a stupid fret! one thing i did notice is when i adjusted the truss rod to get rid of the buzz and tuned it all up both the 9th and 17th frets began to buzz, so i readjusted it a tiny bit and the 9th fret was buzzing still and not the 17th..

please help!,
Hayden

Don't be such a cheapskate. Take it and have the frets leveled and dressed. You will be amazed how awesome a properly level neck and setup guitar plays and feels. Loosen the sphincter a bit and drop some cash down.

That would be a lot of money for me too, hold onto it for now and learn more about the problem first. You say the truss rod is perfectly adjusted, I'm wondering if maybe you have it set perfectly straight? A proper adjustment is when the neck is slightly bowed, a neck needs a little relief. So which way do you have it?

Look the top and bottom edges of the problem frets. Do they seem seated properly, are any slanted or higher (when looking at the ends)? Everybody hates fretbuzz, but you might not have to spend $100+ on a setup. If you can figure out exactly what is causing it you may be able to fix it yourself for free. Just learn first.

If you live in Southern California there's a place called Eric's Guitar Shop in Van Nuys. He's the best tech I've been to, and his set-ups only cost $54. He's authorized by a multitude of companies to do warranty repairs.

One man is a lot for anyone and 100 bucks is not just to adjust action etc its for a full fret level and dressing which is labor intensive.

how do you know what my guitar store charges.. its $100 for action and intonation, and then they just polish the body and neck up, the guy told me, fret dressing is another $50 if you get the action adjusted or $100 by itself, its one of those music shops that sells everying over prices (ernie ball strings are 7 bucks..) and i live in northern california about a half an hour away from sacramento and a hour away from tahoe... the shops called nicholsons music

Duded your getting ****ed at that store. Do your intonation and action yourself and pay yourself the money. The tech section at ibanezrules.com is tiptop. Toss those ****s 50 bucks to level the frets. Then spend the money you save on beer and hookers.

There are many tutorials on the net on how to do fret jobs but you need special tools.

Agreed. This sounds like a good medium between the two options. Do the easier, less skilled setup work yourself and see if it fixed the fret buzz. If it doesn't find a shop that will do a fret level for a fair price.

A fret buzz at the 9th fret sounds like your neck has a slight bow, bowed at the 9th fret, a barkwards bow, if it were a fret buzz at the first fret it would be a front bow (not the best terms but its all I got from the top of my head right now). Seem to me like your truss rod need another quarter turn counter clock wise.

Does it buzz at the 9th fret for all strings? There is such a thing as a bad set of strings, sometimes just clipping off the strings and installing a new set can fix the issue. Has it been like this for a while?

If it's only on the 9th fret, I'm going to guess you need a fret level. You can buy a Fret Rocker from Stew Mac to find out if you have high frets, but that is half the cost of a fret level.
