Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
Hi!!!
Rich help me please.. i have just leveled my frets, dressed them and polished them.
But after i restring it i got a great action and no buzz from 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm
i know i like a action for about 1.5 to 2.0 mm. But the problem is that from 1.5 - 2.0 mm i have no buzz what so ever exept on my first fret the low E and the A string and the rest i perfect as it can be..
I haveing big trouble to resolve that problem since i have no buzz at 0.5 mm and up on everey fret execpt the first at LOW E and A string. the rest of the strings like D G B E are perfect.
Can you help me to resolve this???
By the way i did the fretwork yesterday.. so it is up to date.
Sorry for my bad english.
All the best

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
1.5mm is absurdly low action for one. .5mm? I don't think I could physically play a guitar with action that low.
So, is it the first fret that buzzes when you play an open string, but whenyou fret it doesn't? Or when you fret the first fret you get buzz but nowhere else?
If it's the former, you need to shim your nut slightly higher. If it's the later, my gut feeling is you need SLIGHTLY more
neck relief
.
If you're trying to set your guitar up with .5mm action, however, I suspect that's probably the root of the problem.

+1
I take you don't bend strings much with an action that low

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
hehe you guys
yeah i like to play solo and bend with .5 mm action then i got a great and long sustain
)
hehe seriosly i use 1.5 up to 2.0 mm.
i have buzz only when i pluck the E and A at first fret open string sound great i have just removed a shim from the nut because it was way to high.. that result gave me less buzz on those string but i cant undretstand why only those and no other string or
fret buzz
..
the neck is right setup because anything else plays smooth execpt 2 strings at first fret. my OFR is also perfect..
That is the tricky shxxt..

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
Then it's probably a second fret that's SLIGHTLY high at the low E side.

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
The english is a bit strange but I think you only have open string buzz. If you read over rich's tutorials some is somewhat normal for an optimal setup. IMO lower than 2mm is too low for sweeping, heavy bending etc. but to each their own.

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
If it's unwanted open string buzz either raise the bass side of the nut or add a little neck relief.

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
Without seeing it I'd suspect a little scarf-joint-itis. [first fret backbow]

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
The other strings don't occilate as big so don't need as much clearance.
I suggest you check this thread

Re: Fret buzz :( Rich help me please
All you did was take equal amounts off of all the frets, that doesn't level anything, and if the neck is showing tendency to backbow it has to be cut stressed, and the only way to cut any neck level is with an 18" milled bar with Stickit paper.
