Frying Bacon - pickups crackles occasionally

I have a Herc Fede PMC Jem. Occasionally the middle pickup crackles very annoyingly. The Humbuckers crackle also but not so badly. It usually lasts a day or two then goes away for a week or so. I know the shielding is a problem but why is it an on/off kind of thing?

Sounds like it could be a couple things, either your switch is dirty or the input jack is going south.

Problem solved! Took the guitar to a tech and found out it wasn't the guitar, it was the outlet the amp was plugged into. I have a bass amp in the same room which I had played through and heard the same crackling, so I thought it had to be the guitar...changed outlets and bingo, just the good kind of noise!
