funky pickup

I have a Dimarzio X2N bridge pu and was wondering which neck humbucker would best compliment it. It is high output, so the neck pu should too. I'm looking for a funky clean sound (ie Chili Peppers), with good output. Tired of playing with weak pickups.

you should be aware the x2n is the most powerful pickup that dimarzio ever made. If you get a neck pickup you may want one thats gonna be rather loud, but different and clean. Any of vais pickups will contrast well, as he also use to use the x2n. I would suggest, maybe an evolution neck, or air norton

well, if the X2N's as powerful as it's supposed to be the outputs should be somewhat even...

DUDE. Emgs are ACTIVE, which means they require a BATTERY, a 9volt battery to function properly. The x2n, is passive which means it DOESNT, which also means that if you mix them you have to totally modify the existing wiring, change the input jack, probably the pots, and god knows what else, and thats if he can find someone who can do it.

Personally I think you'll need to balance the high's more than anything, with out too much mids or bass to have it going muddy.

DiMarzio makes the Super2 as it's dedicated high output neck humbucker, it's balanced heavily on the treble side to cut down on mud.

Some folks also like the Steve's Special in the neck position, even though it's usually thought of as a bridge pickup. It's a high output pickup and has a chunk taken out of the mids to keep it fairly clean sounding so that one might work.

Personally though, I'd go with the PAF Pro, it's quite a drop in output from the X2N, but I think it has a fantastic "funky" sound, and seems to never ever get muddy.

my vote would go for the regular norton, breed neck, or evolution neck. those are all high powered pickups. and got balls to boot. not as thin as frusciante's tone, but can easily be split to add more spank. most funky tones come from bridge single coils anyway, but that's just tradition...no rules.

pup help

Thanks for all your input guys. Much appreciated. I checked out all the models you suggested, and am leaning towards the Super 2, although the Vai
pups are a consideration as well. As for the PAF pro, I already have one in my RG, and although I love it, I want to try something different this time around.

hey

What about the Air Zone? Dimarzio discribes it as a PAF pro with boosted output. Sounds good to me.

I like my Super Distortion's funky-clean sound in the bridge. I've heard they're decent in the neck spot too.

I was just browsing the DiMarzio site, and came across the Multibucker. I'd never seen this before. It basically combines their Fast Track and Chopper dual-blade pickups into one single quad-blade humbucker. Nifty! You can wire it to get 6 different sounds out of the one pickup.

Looks like it might complement the X2N quite well.

ok

Sounds good, but the wiring seems like it could be a little more difficult than a standard H-H combo. Any suggestions? I have a 5-way seletor switch.
