Oh, I am being nice...

He asked a legit question, and you answered it. I was making fun of those that want to take anything and make a big deal out of it.

I guess I need to check my sarcasm meter...

I have said it before, and I'll say it again, I have heard people who work in the Jackson Custom Shop (and have for decades) say the chrome saddles sound brighter. I don't know how many thousands of guitars you have to play and hear every month to be able to tell the difference (I certainly can't tell myself), but that's what I've heard. Mike Learn himself mentioned it on the JCF at least once, as have others. Take that any way you please. I'd still buy the ones that looked best myself

I can see how that may be true given the chromium plating vs power coating, but I would have to say the difference in unnoticeable except to the sharpest ear.

Re: Gold/black/chrome Floyd Rose tremolo?

i know that the black is usually anodized and then coated with a laquer, usually you can tell when the shinny stuff flakes off and under is the black....
i know that the gold is chemical electron plating with multiple layers before they apply the last(gold alloy plating)
i know the niken plated(chrome) and also chemical bath like the gold but they sit longer to obtain the thickness neccessary to meet spec, this might atain to the surface layer density on the chrome

i worked in a machine shop once in collge and we dipped plated all kinds of metals for custom orders, more like machine parts though

the black sounds the darkest...

the gold sounds the best...

and the chrome sounds the shiniest!

i pretty sure its not chromium plating

chromium plating is actually not a "chrome" plating
its a electronicaly excited metalized chemical reation and the end result is more like a stainles steel surface used mostly for polishing it is extremely expensive and is not used on basic guitar parts

they use nikel plating primarily

I have no idea how the floyd is chromed, but most metals are copper plated, then nickel plated, and finally chrome plated.

Re: Gold/black/chrome Floyd Rose tremolo?

its only chrome plated for some stuff, but not guitar parts
just looks like it, they use other alloys in there with niken to get it shinny as heck

Re: Gold/black/chrome Floyd Rose tremolo?

I can honestly say that I noted a distinct additional brightness to a chrome Floyd Rose - the two were bought within weeks of one-another, back in the mid 80s (still have the Kramer black/gold box from one of them) and are both 'old-school' screw-in w/adjustable sleeve types...
That surprised and bothered me; I was going for the LOOK of the black one on the project I was doing... and noted that, on the same instrument, there was that brightness, a higher presence, if you will, with the chrome one.
Can't comment on gold - haven't had one...
(Still have those Floyd Roses today; chrome one is on my Ed's Baby #1, the black one is on one of my mongrels with a Kramer hockey-stick neck on it...)
