is it have or close to Edge / Lo-pro Edge feel?
it dont have a problem described here: http://www.jemsite.com/tech/3other.htm#lotrsarm ?
there is not much info about this FR on the net... does anybody got?

i nearly to order OFR... but i guess... i better check this Gotoh FR first.

ps: tq to LonePhantom & WOMB13 to make me think about it

edit: ooopppsss... the title wrongly spell... should be Gotoh FR... not RF

Re: Gotoh RF

Yeah i wanna know more about Gotoh floyds too. Prices, pros and cons, what they feel like (low or high). I've heard if you change from low trs to OFR or gotoh the bridge wont suit the neck properly (and you will need shims or have to mod guitar), in other words it wont just line up perfect like the low trs, can anyone confirm this?

Re: Gotoh RF

The Gotoh Floyd Rose style trem has the best design in terms of whammy bar holder, you can tighten or loosen it by an allen key on the side of the bar holder and the bar just slides in, no screwing or anything. The baseplate and knife edges (as far as I know) are hardened steel and the trem block appear to be brass like the OFR.

It's also cheaper than an OFR. Gotoh are the manufacturers of Ibanez high end trems like the Edge, Lo Pro, Edge Pro.

I found that the Gotoh worked fine on my RG470 when I had it on, and it's now on a custom guitar my father and I built which uses an Ibanez RG neck. No need for shimming anything.

Okay, all fretboards have a radius a curve put into the fretboard shape in order to allow for better guitar action and ease of bending, their are different sizes and variants of these.

Several floyd rose designs have different radius's such as the ofr, edge, and gotoh.

To acheive the absolute best setup its necessary to shim the saddles on certain tremolos in order to properly radius them to the fretboard. On the other hand this process is not actually absolutely necessary. You can get buy without doing so. The guitar simply wont feel or play as well.

Ive done all these mods myself and while i did get some more functionality out of it, i suggest that you simply buy a BETTER guitar. The japanese 5xx series ibanez's for example have much better wood, fretwork, pickups, and general hardware and you wont need to modify them in order to get a good tone and or tuning stability.

Re: Gotoh RF

after a long wait & a few problem... finally i got it yesterday.
here is the pictures.

this trem is really easy to install on the original TRS II post/stud.
but you can see the gap on the left & down side of the Gotoh FR:

on upper side & top right... looks like it's not sit perfect but actually no problem with that.

at the back, the trem block sit really paralel with the cavity. so i can't close it. maybe i have to make a whole at the cover
the trem block will hit the cover when you pull the trem.

okay, here is my review:

Tone
very good. my guitar become more clear and bright. the sustain also increase.
the TRS sound's too warm and not suit with the mahogany body.

Playbility
for me... it's play good but not good as edge or OFR.
u still can do the vai tremolo technique on the song For The Love Of God 3 min 35 sec or Blue Powder 4 min 04 sec but sounds not very smooth & long enough compare to edge & OFR.
yes, you can tighten the arm by the very small allen key at the arm holder.
but when its really tight, the arm cannot freely roll.

anyway... this FR is better than TRS trem. the price also cheaper than TRS and OFR. for those who really care the vai trem technique that i mention above... go with OFR to replace your TRS.

tq mi2tom.
i bought it for USD173 (RM629) including shipping from Japan.
i'm still using an original PU on there (Infinity 1 & 2).
i already have an EMG ZW but not yet have 3-way switch to install the EMG.

Re: Gotoh RF

Nice, great trem. I'd recommend changing your trem posts and anchors too though as the Gotoh one comes with locking ones like the old Edges/Lo Pro. They are a great unit.

Re: Gotoh RF

You have to pull the anchors out of the body too to use the locking trem posts I believe
