Green rosewood?? - What the heck happened to my LP??

Ok, I played the Les Paul today for the first time in a little while.. I've been modifying this guitar, and paying especially good care of the fretboard. It's been cleaned with lemon oil every 6 months, and it's always stayed a very dark brown-red colour. But today, I noticed that it's a very light faded colour, and it's turning GREEN. I'll have to get a picture of it sometime. It's not neon green or anything, but it looks almost like rotting spruce or something. Anyone know what's going on? What can I do to save my fretboard?

Sounds to me like it's got a case of mold that has been saturated into the wood and is finally growing.

When it is stored is it in a case with silica packs to help keep the moisture dried out inside?

It does happen even to the best of woods if not properly stored and your probably going to have to clean it with a petrolium based agent. If it is just starting to turn, just give it a complete wipe down with a rag lightly moistend in mineral spirits and then recoat it using your lemon oil.

Yikes... Thanks for the response. Too moist of a fretboard is not something I usually think about here; it's so unbelievably dry here, I actually have to keep humidifiers in several of my guitar cases to prevent the fretboards from cracking. It's already happened to one of my strats, and this Les Paul had the beginnings of some cracks a couple of years ago. I'll try the petroleum, thanks.
