Guitar Building Question

Hello everyone.

I'm planning on moving up to Minnesota next fall to go to a school that does guitar repair/construction. The program requires me to build one acoustic guitar and one electric.

For my acoustic I'm planning on just doing a regular style acoustic... Maybe a little bit smaller than a Jumbo size.

However my main focus is going to be on the electric guitar since I use them alot more than acoustics.

Well, I'm planning on basing my guitar off of the Jem 7VW. The reason why I'm asking this is to see if there is any way of putting on a mirror finish onto it.. So it would look similar to the Bad Horsey guitar. I'm just wondering if this is possible and where I may be able to pick up the material for the mirror. I've done a search on askjeeves but they keep coming up with actual mirrors. Any suggestions?

All of the other specs are going to be the same as the 7vw except that I might put the Breed pickups in instead. So, hopefully if this works and everything turns out well.... I'll post some pics of it. Right now I'm just gathering some information on it before starting.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Re: Guitar Building Question

The mirror finish on the bad horsey guitar is a VERY thin paint which takes a lot of skill and patience to get the finish right

You could try this...

Use the ground coat and then use the smoke anodized.

Re: Guitar Building Question

Yeah, I've talked to people on Vai's forum and they all said acrylic mirror top too... I'm not sure about the paint... I wonder if I can e-mail Mr. Vai himself and ask him. lol.

Anyway, I'll take a look around.

Thanks.
