Has anybody tried the D-Tuna?

I just ordered an rg350 and am new to floating trem bridges, so I'm used to being able to go down to drop d with ease with a fixed bridge. Has anyone tried the D-Tuna by Van Halen? I'm curious to know if this actually works as well as it's advertised! Thanks guys

You cannot use a D tune with a floating bridge.

It works very well indeed but you have to block the floating trem if you are going to use it on one...
It works on the principle of a breaking string, so that released tension will throw the floating trem out immediately...

However it's a great thing as long as you don't need to pull up on the bar.

Thanks for the help guys! I'm still trying to figure out floating bridges and how exactly they work because I'm so used to a simple fixed bridge. But thanks again for the help I appreciate it

Re: Has anybody tried the D-Tuna?

With a floating trem bridge you can pull up or dive down the pitch. When tuning, changing the pitch of one string changes the others. If you break a string all the others go sharp. Blocking the trem means installing a block behind the spring block so it stops the trem from pulling up. This makes it so you can adjust the springs hard against the block so when tuning a string the others don’t go out of tune and breaking a string the others stay in tune. That is why you have to block the trem to use a de-tuna, so it wouldn’t change the pitch of the other strings when you go to drop D. The only disadvantage is you can’t pull the pitch up.

Re: Has anybody tried the D-Tuna?

My ibby's have a edge trems, one is blocked so I tried a d-tuna but found it didn't fit very well with the recess under the bridge. When it was pulled out (the d-tuna) in drop mode it wouldn't slide out far enough because it hit the edge of the cavity. I could have raised the bridge or changed the angle but it was perfect as it was so I didn't bother.

How did you guys get around this?
