Has anyone ever picked up a radio station on their amp before?

Has anyone ever picked up a radio station on their amplifier before? Its happened to me three times that I can remember. The first time I seemed to have picked up a Mexican radio station the next couple of times it sounded like CB. Its happened with both my amps, a cheapie Peavy and a solid state Marshall. I assume it almost has to be CB or AM radio, HF ham radio usually uses the sidebands and FM takes more than just amplifying the signal to get the audio out of it. I can't remember if i had my guitar plugged in or if I just had the lead laying on the floor. Just curious to see who else this has happened to and what the conditions were (was the guitar plugged in, ect?) when it happened?

It used to happen to me until i started using George L's cables, and properly shielded all the wiring in my guitar (replaced most of the wire with shielded wire). Then it stopped.

Never had that happen soley to my amp, only while plugging in my worthless Dunlap Crybaby. The only station it would pick up was some pop garbage. That was irritating as all hell. The only cool thing was you could wah crappy music and make it sound even crappier.

Does it what?

Hell, I'm thinking of putting in a dialing knob to tune other stations and get a cheapo amp & radio, all in one

Re: Has anyone ever picked up a radio station on their amp before?

I was in a band in the '80s that used a homemade snake for cabling mics to our sound board. We used to play a club that was lined up with the approach path of the runways at BWI airport. During our first gig at this place, we kept receiving ****pit and air traffic control communications through our pa system. We narrowed it down to 2 send cables that were badly shielded.

Just recently, when I got my new JSX head set up at our rehearsal space, I made the mistake of running the footswitch cable in the same bundle as the main signal cable and effects send and return. We were able to hear cordless phone conversations and noise from remote control units. Depending on where I stood in the room, I could pickup a radio announcer speaking Russian.

I had a guitar rig that I could adjust the volume and tone to tune the radio station clearly...................then I would just put my guitar on the stand and listen to the radio while we took a break. It actually can in handy!

It just comes down to bad sheilding on the guitar or the cable and in my case..............both.
