Have I been screwed?
My JS1000 arrived from Italy today, I got it really cheap and it's in mint condition.
However, upon closer inspection I got a huge lump in my throat cause this is supposedly a 2004 model with an
Edge Pro bridge
, but it has a screw in tremelo.
Has the bridge been replaced with a TRSII?

Re: Have I been screwed?
Relax Anton.
First off, that doesn't look like an Edge Pro but more like a Lo-
Pro Edge
. The only thing the previous owner has replaced on the trem is the arm assembly, so you can easily revert the trem back to its original state provided that you get a new
trem arm
assembly, which shouldn't cost too much. What's the serial on that BTB?
Post more pics.

Re: Have I been screwed?
Jimmy, are you sure?
I thought that the edge tremelo arms 'popped' into place, this brige has rivets where the arm is supposed to be screwed in.
More pics to come.

Re: Have I been screwed?
Anton,
First off, and I'm sure you know that already, if this was supposed to be an EdgePro, then the seller totally lied to you. It is obviously not. Saddles on en EdgePro are totally different.
On the other hand, although the picture is a bit fuzzy, it does not look like a TRSII as those have an inscription on the bass-side wing of the trem saying "Lo TRSII", and I think I don't see any there on the picture. The saddles seem to have the regular shape of a stock LoPro, the TRS ones have a drop and then wedge shape to them, whereas these just tamper down so to speak, as in a LoPro.
But then, you're right, the trem holder is not what a standard LoPro
trem arm holder
should be. I've never done so, hence can't tell whether it is possible to replace the standard holder for this screw-on type. Rich should likely be able to advice.
In the meanwhile, you can also open the trem cavity on the back and look for the markings on the trem block: LoPro's will have the "Ibanez Edge" marking, whereas the TRSII's will have the Japanese manufacturer's name (I forget now, but something like Takeshi or Takagushi or something like that???)
Hope this helps.
Gus.

Re: Have I been screwed?
LoPro there. Since Jimmy is suggesting that, then the previous owner replaced the
arm holder
. That's a serviceable part, should be very easy and not too expensive to revert back to stock.
If you need extra assurances, open the trem cover on the back and look for the markings.
Cheers and congrats for the new axe!

Re: Have I been screwed?
That's great, cheers.
If anyone else can confirm this that would be great, I'm still a little bit skeptical, and in all honesty quite upset. Also, I'd appreciate advice on how I would go about changing it back to stock, if anyone has any.
cheers

Re: Have I been screwed?
Hi there,
That definitely a lo pro, in my opinion better than the edge pro anyway. What is the serial number, didn't think you could retro fit the lo pro to an edge pro cavity. I think that the trems changed around 2003. The mod that has been done is quite common for people to do as the bushes wear out and the arms go slack it can get quite annoying to the people who need the arm to be where is was last time they used it. To roll it back will probably cost around £30 for a new arm holder and nut (and some loctite if possible). See how you go it with it first though. See Max Cottam banner above, he'll confirm what you need.
Other than the trem difference how is the guitar? Nice aren't they I had a JS but had to sell it.
Regards
Tim

Re: Have I been screwed?
Whatever it is, it isn't the TRSII. That is a form of
Edge trem
, you have, as evident by the baseplate design. The Takeuchi's look much different.

Re: Have I been screwed?
What's the serial on the back of the headstock Anton?
In order to replace the trem arm asembly, you have to pull out the bridge and unscrew the one that's in there and put the new one in. the way I would do it if I were you would be to take off the springs and then simply pull the whole trem out of the cavity without removing the strings and without loosening the
locking nut
. I think Nuno posted some pics if the procedure in a thread somewhere.

Re: Have I been screwed?
Dude, you got totally screwed, better send that guitar to me and I'll erm...rectify the situation for you
I'm only in Sheffield, so i'm pretty close.
Just kidding, as you probably already know thats a Lo-Pro edge.
Great guitar though, the Lo-Pro edge is a great bridge, they usually stay in tune better than
Edge Pros
anyway since they have the
locking studs
in the trem posts.
