what kind of decal? water slide or vinyl? Spray your clear on. That will hide the clear part of the decal if you are using a water slide. Put your decal on. Spray several coats over the top of the decal. If it is vinyl, you'll need a lot of coverage to make it smooth. When it cures, wet sand it so you get it smooth, buff it and your done

Answer:

Poly sprayed over vinyl will work.
Nitro sprayed over waterslide will work.
Nitro sprayed over vinyl will eat away and destroy it.

Another popular option is Tru-Oil. That's what I've been using over vinyl decals for my last few builds. Available in both bottle and spray, but I've had best luck with the bottle. Requires quite a few coats, and sanding between coats (320 grit) after you have enough built up to protect the top of the decal.

Re: headstock decal clear over question

thanks all i have minwax polyurethane thats what i cleared body with looks great after buff but not before buff guess the orangepill and yes its vinyl so lucky me on poly . reason i use poly is i had a enamel base and then enamel swirl and nitro takes 5 million yrs to dry its looks real professional cant believe it was all spray cans .only bad thing the purple and green come out kinda light and looks kinda girly but i think the green pups will help.
