Help - Ibanez Edge Knife Edges
Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone had some good guidelines for getting the knife edges out of the old style
Edge Bridge
?
Ive filed them down a few times but now is the time to change the flat one.

Can't change them. The knife edges are a one lifetime deal kind of thing AFAIK. I'm afraid you're going to have to replace the trem.

Are you sure ? Reason I ask is because I bought a pair of spare edges from Rich a while back.

Re: Help - Ibanez Edge Knife Edges
Their is a really old thread that sparked alot of controversy about this awhile back, search and you may find it. Anyways, I seem to remember a guy removing them by cutting into the old ones, and then pulling htem out with a flathead screwdriver or there abouts, of course their are probably some different ways with a bit more finesse. Are you sure though that rich didnt sell you knife edge inserts for the edge pro, instead of the original edge your using?
As always a little bit of liquid wrench will probably help you, they are pretty tight so a bit of lubricant will help things out a bit. I personally would suggest replacing the tremolo too if the knife edges are that far gone. Hell how much did you take off the edge of them? Surely they have enough metal on them left to be sharpened again. I want pictures!

+1 on the pictures, I think it would give a better perspective as to the extent of the wear on those K.E.'s

Re: Help - Ibanez Edge Knife Edges
Yeah as many threads on sharpening knife edges point out, you dont want them razor sharp, just butterknife sharp. Going so far as to actually sharpen them they would possibly start chipping

Re: Help - Ibanez Edge Knife Edges
I will be honest, I already cut into the knife after posting my topic as i couldn't wait.
I have 3 Ibanez RGs, 2 with Edges and one with the Low
Pro edge
. I always give some attention to the knifes when i feel the bridge isn't keeping tune etc.
I started filling the Flat Knive earlier (the other didnt need attention) but the burr was quite big for some reason and after filing i still wasn't happy with it so I decided to go for a Knife Change.
Pic of the base plate:

Can post a pic of the knives but its too late really, just a small cut through the flat knive

Re: Help - Ibanez Edge Knife Edges
You have to use a dremmel cut off disc or similar to cut a slot in it close to the plate so you can work it out with a flathead screwdriver levered on the baseplate [protect it of course]. It's simple if you have the tools. The curved side is tougher IMO.
