Detune till it goes back down. Let it sit for an hour, then tune it back up *slowly*.

* *The way I string my guitar is put the strings on. Tighten them just enough for a little bit of tension and then stretch them gently then tighten them a little and then stretch again do this a couple of times. Be sure not the stretch the strings too much. Do it a little bit at a time. OR do this = tune it , play it , tune it , play it , tune it , and then PLAY IT.

HELP!!! my new JEM7DBK is making me cry

Many years ago, when i was a young pup learning the "funness" (is that a word? ) of a floyd rose, I did the same thing a few times.

what I think you've done is tune one string (whichever) an octave higher than it should be and then realised that every other string is out of tune (because of this one string being an octave higher)...soooo you start to tune the others up, and up, and up, and up which makes the tremolo point up in the air.

Just drop all the strings down and start from scratch. There's no quick fix. Just tune it up slowly.

Good luck,

wil..

whoops! my bad, just read through the other posts... yeah, just do what rich said

 Beating The Proverbial Dead Horse

1.) Release the top locks
2.) Set your fine tuners to a nutral position (about a quarter of the way in)
3.) Take all the strings down to flip-flap-flop city.
4.) Start tuning the string up from low E to hight E until the strings aren't buzzing and the Edge is floating and no longer digging into your claw.
5.) Start tuning from low E to hight E, you'll probably do this 4-5 times till it's close to perfect.
6.) Close the top locks.
7.) Fine tune that sucker to perfection.
8.) Be happy!

You're one octave too high.

Tune down an octave (on each string).

Enjoy the results.

One octave?!?!?!

If you tune a string up that much higher than it should be, wouldn't it have broken already?

Just wondering.. I mean, wow, one octave!

I stripped all the strings off a guitar once and spent (no lie) an hour or so tuning the darn thing back up. *Boy did my left shoulder get tired. *I'd start with the Low E, get it in tune, then go to the A, and so forth up the High E. *Then back to the Low E (because by now it was way flat again) so I did this repeatedly for a LOOONG time until everything was brought up in tune at once. *I was pretty fatigued afterwards, but it worked and it was systematic. *No guesswork involved.

Yup, when I bought my first real Strat, I swapped strings and tuned it up. *The bridge was pointing skyward and the strings were TIGHT. *What could I have done?!! *OOPS! *I had tuned an octave too high. *I thought for sure that it would have snapped a string or two... so the point is: *it can be easy to do it and not have disastrous results.
