Ouch, looks like some of the ebony has come off. Is that a PGM90?

I blew the first pic up, you can see it better from that angle. I can't tell you why/how it's doing it though.

Help......what happen to my fretboard?

Hey cow,

From what I understand a chip came of the ebony. Do you still have that piece? If so you can glue it back carefully with superglue, and sand it back with fine sanding paper. Afterwards if you put some lemon oil on it, you'll never see that it's repaired.

If you don't have the chip anymore, you could fill it up with ebony powder or other black powder, and put a little drop of superglue to it. This will make it look very messy, but again you can use some fine sanding paper to get it right again.

Note: when you use the sanding paper, use it in the direction of the wood. Otherwise you'll see scrathes.

I hope this could help you a bit.

Good luck,
Alex

i don't see a chip, but a hi-res photo taken outdoors would greatly help

That said, it sounds like the edge of the fretboard has a small chip where the nut was sanded. It is common to do this, if you run a file horizontally across the fretboard, the grain of wood can chip. Again, i don't see a chip and prefer not to guess at a problem. If the "chip" is not near fret-1 then you have nothing to worry about, cosmetics aside. Good luck... glen

Did you buy it like that, or did it happen after you had it? Fretboard blanks are rough shaped on belt sanders, then fine sanded by hand. Yours is beautifully fine sanded, but looks like in that section, the job didn't quite get done. I have seen it on the ends-by the nut or the highest frets. When they level the fretboard it is easy to be careless on the end. If it happened after you got the guitar, then it is probably a chip, and can be filled. But althought the pics are great, they don't clearly show the actual damage. Try with the strings off, on a sharper angle with the light showing shadows on that spot. Then we can tell you for certain.
