Question

Help with some basic modding

Hi. For starters, I know NOTHING about modding guitars which is why I am posting this.

I have a cheapy (but still nice) SG copy which I haven't used since I got my rg1570 (but still want to be able to use it!), and so I thought I'd use it to try some stuff out on, to try and get into guitar modding on something cheap. I plan to take off the laquer and paint from the neck and sand the neck alot thinner, to make the guitar feel nicer. I also want to re-fret it (but don't wanna spend loads on tools that I'll hardly ever use to do it). Have you got any tips for either of these mods?

Also, is there any kind of oil or wax I should use on the neck once it is stripped down to get it to feel like my rg/to keep it in good condition?

I also plan to make a new pickguard and put new pups into it (scary if you aint done it before), but that can wait untill another day.

Any help would be great, thanks

Tung Oil is something you can always put on the back of your guitar neck once it's stripped down. I personally recommended doing 3-4 coats of it while sanding it with 0000 steel wool.

I've reshaped some Les Paul necks before and usually find that using a cabinet scraper yields better results than just sanding. Good luck with the mod project.

Use Tru-Oil for the neck.

Head over to www.projectguitar.com and read everything you can find. That should give you a good start.
