High Fret on Acoustic

The high E string chokes on the 15th fret and I've realized that the 16th fret is a little bit to high. I did something very stupid; I used a flat head screw driver to try and push the fret down a little(cause it looked like it was raised a bit) and I put 3 small dents in the fret. Is it possible for a guitar tech to file down this one fret without having to level all of the frets?

If the dents aren't deeper than what needs to be removed, then yes. If the dents are too deep, you'd be better off to replace that fret and level it in with the others.

Re: High Fret on Acoustic

I didn't want to start another thread but I have another question. On the b string, the first 4 frets are out of tune. The string is perfectly in tune, but frets 1-4 are all sharp. What's wrong?

Okay, forget about the question I just asked. I have another question. I'v noticed a few frets that seem to be popping up off of the fretboard in some places. What's the best way to push them back down into the board without damaging the fret?

Lightly tap them down flush with a small hammer. You can get a special fret hammer from places like www.stewmac.com but you can use an ordinary hammer if you are careful. You can soften the blow by using a block of scrap wood between the hammer and the fret.

Check this out:

Re: High Fret on Acoustic

If they are popping up now, they will just pop up again after you tap them down. You need to seat them down fully (preferably by pressing instead of hammering) and keep them clamped down while you glue them down with CA (superglue). Sounds like you need to do the whole board frankly. Then level and crown the frets again. This all assumes that the frets are even good enough to save in the first place. Otherwise, just get a complete refret.
