Hmmm... is this normal?

Hey!

I hate bugging you guys all the time with my questions, but: Is it normal, that when you let the whammy bar do the sound like a ruler on a table (you know what I mean, right?, this brlrlrlrlrlrllrlrrrrr sound, when you're playing a note and then only hit the whammy) that the springs resonate pretty loudly?
I just got new springs and thought that maybe this would go away, because my old ones did that too...

Anyone? If you don't know what I mean, I could make a sound sample of it...

Its called "flutter" and its an effect desired by a lot of people. lol. Go figure. The way to get around it is to keep your hand on it when it rises up to keep it from snapping back. And no, it doens't hurt anything to perform the flutter. Once you get used to it, its easy to control.

No, I want that effect! lol

The thing is, that the springs produce a sound, although they shouldn't... Meaning, that if I do the "flutter" after the string stops "fluttering" the springs still go on and have a kind of hmmmmmmmmmmmm sound. Do you know what I mean? I think I'll make a sound sample tomorrow, okay?

You'll have to mute the springs if you want to get rid of it. Stuff cotton balls inside the springs as a damper.

Cool idea Rich! Thanks. I'll try that.... Now I have to glue my headstock first, before I do other things to my FP

Cotton balls! Of course!

(slapping forehead, thinking "Why didn't I think of that?")
