Re: Hollow body swirl
I was wondering....... why not fill the body with sanding sealer, let it soak for a bit, then drain and let dry. You'd probably need some type of rotisserie for drying to keep the wet sealer from pooling.
also, instead of putting sand in the balloons, why not just use water?? It's obviously has the same density as the water your dipping in. If you have large enough balloons, they may seal the f-holes when full.

I'm using the borax method, since the guitar is a thru-neck guitar I thought it'd be cool to dip the whole guitar since i haven't seen that yet. I filled the guitar with plastic bags then taped off the openings as best I could. I filled 90 gallons of water in a trash can heated it to 78 degrees and added 8 cups of borax stirred then let it sit. I mixed my paints and began to dip i suddenly realized that dipping a hollow guitar is incredibly difficult because it wants to float. I also found that dipping a whole guitar is impossible because the body wants to move violently around. The third thing that I found to cause this to be a problem was that water seeped into the tape causing air bubbles which pushed the paint away from the guitar. This caused the starting dip to work out as planned but once the paint went past the holes it faded to crap. Does any one have any ideas on what I can do to make this dip work. Thanks
hahaha, I wish you had filmed this!!! (sorry....) :-)

Wow--that's more of a hockeystick headstock than any other hockeystick headstocks!

Re: Hollow body swirl
It's gonna be all chrome with a jbj original seymour duncan with concentric pot for volume and tone all wired through the jack plate. It took some time to find a proper nut placement for optimum string angle with the neck but i've strung it all up and it seems to hold up fine. The Body is made of 3 different pieces of wood a solid back a hollow cavity inside and a solid top it could have the ability to have a tremolo I just don't have the funds. (I started to make this guitar from the first guitar that I've owned a "First Act" 50 dollar hunk of crap...I don't own a router of power saw or anything like that just a dremel a file and a drill I'm hoping to sell this that way I can afford to buy a few tools that way I can make some crazy looking guitars)

Re: Hollow body swirl
Thx I was starting to get tired of seeing all the same swirls so Ima try some brand new stuff. I'm on my 9th swirl for the body and its almost got the pattern i'm looking for. 10 should be my lucky number. It's funny I can custom paint graphics on a guitar in 4 days flat but it's taken well over a month of dip after dip to barely come up with a satisfactory swirl.
