how dark is tung oil?

Does anyone have pictures of how dark tung oil will turn basswood? I have an RG body sanded down completely and it is extremely light, I was thinking about tung oil, but I wanted to know how much it would darken it.

thanks

It will not darken the basswood much... rub some water on the wood and that is about what it will look like. It may darken up over time but I am not sure. Do a search for tung oil on this forum and you should find some jems and parts guitars with oiled bodies.

Tung oil isn't going to darken it much. When you apply it, it'll look dark, but it'll lighten up as the oil cures.

Yeah, www.realmilkpaint.com sells great oil online (thats where i got mine), and they have natural, and tinted.... the natural, as said, looks dark when youre applying it, but then it lightens

good luck, and post pics!! ill eventually do the same once i score a cheap jap RG with a beat up finish

Re: how dark is tung oil?

Tung oil keeps the natural color of the wood. As someone said above, if you rub a damp cloth on the wood, that's what it will look like when finished. The only darkening that happens over time is from the exposure to light.
