How do I adjust the action on Edge Pro?
Hey there,
How do I adjust the action on my RG1570 Edge Pro? I tried inserting the tool that came with it, but it's not turning.
From what I understand I have to buy a set of allen wrenches to unscrew the tiny screw within the stud (or whatever it's called), and then I will be able to insert the key that came with it and raise and lower the tremolo?
Thank you,
Joey

that's on the Edge, LoPro Edge and EdgeZero, not on the EdgePro. you just want to use a 3mm allen key.

Interesting....so I should just push harder to turn it?
Because I pushed pretty hard, but maybe not hard enough.

Are you trying to lower the action? Can you post a pic of your stud?

it should just turn, provided it didn't get the stud mod...

Sounds like it's either at the bottom of it's hole or it has the stud mod. If you think it's got a locking stud, then yeah, you'll need to get a smaller allen wrench to get in there and loosen that. If you think it's at the bottom of the hole, shim the neck. Check out

Look at the tech stuff to see what you need, it's a great resource.

Re: How do I adjust the action on Edge Pro?
Okay well shoot, I don't have access to a camera at the moment, but I'll fill you guys in on the details.
It's brand new, 2008 model and so it doesn't have the locking stud mod (but I did purchase that mod from Ibanezrules.com the other day lol)
This is my first tremolo, so I'm learning all about it. I used the key that came with it (the same one used to unscrew the locks at the nut), but it's so tiny that I can't get a grip. When I get the proper allen key, that might do the trick.
Which makes me wonder if it should be easy to unscrew those screws and lift and lower the edge tremolo? Again, maybe it's just the allen key.
Also, the tremolo was raised way too high, so I tightened the springs and got that sorted out, and that's when the strings lowered at bit and started buzzing. I tried loosening the truss rod quite a bit since it was buzzing at around the 5th fret mostly, but that didn't do much.
So that's why I'm trying to higher the action, although even if I do, the action is going to be pretty damn high, so I'm not sure what to do about that?
Thanks,
Joey

You might see this as a cop-out solution, but I'd personally find some professional guy to set up your guitar better, maybe wait for the mod to arrive so you can get a 2 in 1. He might find some problem with the guitar that is hard to notice.

Re: How do I adjust the action on Edge Pro?
I don't agree. This all just basic set up stuff, the keys come with most guitars for a reason. Any guitarist should know how to restring, adjust action, srpings trussrod etc. You wouldn't be able to go from 9s to 10s, or use alternative tunings with a floating bridge if you didn't know how.
@Joey, you wouldn't adjust the trussrod with the allen key you use for the locking nut woud you? so why would you try that on the bridge? They're definitely not the same size
The exact sizes are given in the manual.

Joey, everyone has to start somewhere, and I suggest you start here.

Rich has written some excellent articles on how to take care of your guitar.

Re: How do I adjust the action on Edge Pro?
BTW, if you got it from Rich at IbanezRules, chances are it has the locking stud mod, as I recall it is included for all Edge Pro guitars in the packages, unless you specifically ask for it not being done (and save a, IMHO stupid, 35 dollars if I remember correctly).
Never try to turn a wrench to hard ... chances are it is just locked down so unlock it first with the small allen key before you use the big one to adjust the action.
