How do you make the fretboard feel slippery?

Hi guys,

Just got a new guitar and had it setup prior to receiving the guitar (pictures and story here: Advice needed: What would you do? (fixed bridge Ibanez)).

Anyway, I noticed that the strings-fretboard are so silky and slippery. (I haven't used this guitar tech before). I have a feeling he's sprayed something on there. I know I could just wait till tomorrow and ring up and ask him, but I was wondering what you guys use (if anything)?

I just love how slippery it feels.

ps.. aww, I can't resist, here's a pic

A spray called Finger Ease would do it.

On the odd occasion that I clean my fretboard with lemon oil (as sold in every guitar store) it always leaves the board and strings feeling slippery like you mention. I don't like the feel of that at all though, usually have to play it in for a couple of days to make it go away.

To each his own and all that.

PS: Hey Nuno.

Use this stuff called "GHS Fast Fret" you can pick it up at most music stores and at guitar center and stuff. That is some good sh!t let me tell you, it lubes up the fingerboard nicely and cleans/brightens your strings at the same time its safe for all fingerboards.

Cool. I'll have to see if I can find some of that. Thanks

I know. I was surprised when I got it. I ordered it with the pickups and thought it would be like my other Dimarzio cliplock straps (nylon with brass bushings). It's a weird cloth like material. Looks ok, and feels nice. I'll see how it holds up next gig.

Is that GHS Fast Fret the thing that looks like a cloth with a wooden handle that comes in a little metal can? If so, I used it once or twice but didn't like it. Whenever I change strings, I just use a little regular old furniture polish (I can't remember the name brand) and it works just fine.

Well, You can put on some "****pit shine" (for the carīs interior, dashboard etc.). Thatīll make your fingers slippery enough
But I canīt say if it harms your fingerboard etc..

Anyone tried to Wax the fretboard. Tried recently with some standard Carwax and it shure became shiny. Does that harm the wood on the fingerboard?

Iīm not sure about that, as it fills all gaps and "seals" the neck frpm "breathing", but on a "raw" neck (no paint on the backside), it should work (or...???).

I tried fast fret a while back and it seems to get tacky after a while, seemingly the opposite of what its supposed to do.

The stuff on my guitar at the moment doesn't seem to be getting "tacky". Possibly the slipperyness is wearing off though.

It has a very distinctive smell about it. Some form of oil perhaps? Does fast fret or finger ease smell of a thick/heavy almost lemony but not as citrusy type smell?
