How Do you Store A Neck Without Strings?
I just got this RG neck off of eBay and I won't be putting it on a guitar for awhile, so no
string tension
. Am I supposed to leave the
truss rod
completely loose or have it tightened a bit?

leave it loose that will take all the tension off the neck. It would be a good idea while you have the neck off to polish the frets and give the neck a nice coat of lemon oil when your done too. Smooths everything up, although lemon oil seems to make the frets corrode a little bit, it will keep the neck from overdrying.

Yeah, I'm going to go to town and polish up the frets and clean the gunk next to the frets, I don't now what that stuff is. Built up dirt.

don't clean too close. Some might be glue to hold the frets down.

True! I'll probably just scrape it off lightly with a pick. I'm still wondering how I should store though!

I am interested in knowing too. If you take all of the tension off the neck by loosening the truss rod, wouldn't that increase the odds of the wood twisting?

The wood usually twist because the adverse effect from the truss rod tension, it usually just bows alot when you release this tension from the neck. What Ive noticed is fatal backbow almost always comes from the strings being removed all at once for a period of time with tension on the trussrod.

I emailed Warmoth to find out once and for all. "loose", said Ken Warmoth. So now we know.

You know, "sniperfrommars1", you answered the question correctly TWICE and I didn't pay any attention. Sorry about that!

I just make sure it's loose and my fretboard is straight(no backbow or frontbow).

I'd go also with that (set loose)
The truss rod is designed to counteract the forces caused by the strings. But with no strings attached.. no force to be counteracted..
Cheers,
Joten
