How hard is it to...
Get the disapearing
pyramid inlays
out of my
jem neck
?
I'd like to remove them, change the colored paper and put them back.
Ive gone through old posts talking about drilling through to remove old ones..
but what if you want to keep them like I do?
Any options?
Are they semi easy to get replacements for?

Its going to be tricky! You could potentially route out the old inlays, change the coloured paper then replace the clear...its going to be an awful lot of work though! Replacing the fretboard could also be an option...
Alternitavly you could sell your Neck and have someone build you a new one to the same specs with the inlays of your choosing...

What type of wood is your fretboard? Doing it on a maple board would be really unforgiving. Rosewood or ebony leave a bit more chance to conceal the inevitable damage, but it still would be tough. As mentioned, the best chance would probably be to destroy the clear inlays and make new ones. In other words ... you really have to want to do it.

crazy question but do you know if stock pyramid inlays are able to be purchased?
Or do you think more than likely they would have to be done from scratch?
I wasnt sure if they were glued in only the sides..
and with a very very fine blade you could get in there and cut it free.

None of this sounds like a good idea - if you try it and screw it up you have ruined the value of your axe (and possibly ruined it's playability too), if you succeed and decide later to sell it, you have turned off 90% or so of your potential buyers, if you do it, and decide you don't like it you have to try it all again to get back to where you started.....
strongly suggest you have a look at
Christopher Woods
(Bigvelvetdog) or Legacy One or similar and have a neck made for you to the spec you want - if, later you decide that it wasn't really what you wanted, you can return your guitar to stock, and recover a good portion of the cost of the new neck by selling it.

Oh i've already "ruined" the value of the guitar
(see my Jem777 and Original
Floyd Rose
thread)
Im painting it a red white an black frankenstraat ...
but the only thing that doesnt go is the green yellow and red inlays.
I laid them together though..and it really didnt look that bad..
I figured i would leave it as is..but just figured I would ask in case it was an
easy mod.
Im fine with it the way it is..thanks for the info!
