Re: How Much For Scalloping

There are a couple of services for offer on , somewhat intermittently, on a famous auction site. The two companies seem to be in heated competition. The guy who's been doing it longer charges around $99 I think, and from his photos, he's the better of the two.

Depends on which hardware store you go to to get a round wood file.

Hardware stores sell files, which can be used to scallop your own fretboard.
I bought and old neck and used it to practice, and I'm actually fairly good at it. I plan on scalloping the neck of my other guitars as well (frets 12 through 24)

Re: How Much For Scalloping

I have been scalloping my own necks for 20 yrs......
I have also scalloped a Super Wizard neck....no problems even after 5yrs.
As Long as the neck is stable to begin with and you know what you are doing you can scallop it.

Re: How Much For Scalloping

Make sure you've practiced on other necks if you're going to scallop yourself, then once you scallop you have to sand (in increasing grits, I say up to about 600 if you want to go really fine, but 300-ish should do the job). Then you have to finish the neck, unless you're scalloping rosewood/ebony/pao ferro.

You could also probably bring the neck into your local guitar shop and have them scallop it.

Re: How Much For Scalloping

Be prepared to pay $10 a fret or more at a local shop.
Then clear coat charge after that.
