How often to intonate?
As often as needed, or is this something that should be checked & tweaked every time you change the strings?

Re: How often to intonate?
I would say checked every string change, but unless you're changing gauges and tunings a lot, you might have to tweak it.

Re: How often to intonate?
Intonating is such a pain. I pay my friend to do it every two months, in which I would change the strings about 3 or 4 times. Works for me.

I'll tell ya, intonating is WAY easier with something like an Edge tool.

Re: How often to intonate?
Is anybody actually checking the intonation is out?
I get back guitars I did 2 years ago and the intonation is still right on the money. You only need to intonate when it changes [for whatever reason]

If you are super obsessive person with sensitive ears, every time you change strings.
If you are me, never.

Re: How often to intonate?
I must be one of the luckiest guys in the world when it comes to guitars. Nothing bothers me. Neck width, nut width, 22 frets, 24 frets, tuning instability, intonation, weight of guitar, pickup config, pickups, etc. No issues. One of my buddies laughs that I can pick up anything and play it and have no qualms.
I hear people complaining about 1/16", and it baffles me. But I also hear people complaining about EMG's. Just kidding, not gonna go there.

I wouldn't say that. It's probably just when I was growing up playing my brother's guitars, and they were very, very, very far from perfect. A bunch of POS's.
But once I get my guitars set-up good, I never ever have any problems or issues. It might be the fact that I play with a very light touch.

Re: How often to intonate?
I've never had to reset my intonation after it was set the 1st time. I always use the same
guage strings
, .009 strings. but I didn't know that would affect it. At any rate, I've got guitars that I've had for 5 years and I checked them when I got them and they were right on the money and they are still perfect.

Re: How often to intonate?
I check the saddle screws to make sure they have not loosened up now and then, but the intonation never moves unless i change something. i suppose wear on the saddles and frets could change it, but that takes a long time. i wouldn't worry about it unless chords are sounding funky or notes are sounding flat or something like that.
BUT...when i change strings i do sometimes just check a string or two as long as i have the tuner out to see if it's still on, and it usually is.
