How sharp should trem studs be ? - Do you have a pic ?

G'day all,

Should the groove on the trem stud be a very sharp "V" shape or are studs released from the factory with a slight "U" ?

If anyone has a picture of a new stud, I'd greatly appreciate seeing it.

The reason I'm asking is because even with needle files I can't "V" out my studs, I can only get a "U" shape. The bottom of the "U" is less than 1/2 a millimetre, but I think that's enough for the knife edge to drag on and stick.

Thanks for reading,

Tony

To the best of my knowledge, there are two types. Really old ones, who are perfectly V and newer, who have just a tad more roundness to it. Now in the file upload section, I'm postive there are images of both, I just don't have the time to look them up now, but browse there.

I prefer the old ones, tho.

Unless you're working on a lathe you'll never get the cut right to begin with. Then again, why are you trying? Posts are cheap, buy a new pair!

Titanium trem plates and studs would seem to be a cool idea. I wonder if it would work well and last longer than steel......one would think so, anyhow. *

You know how it is when you've got something you might be able to fix ? Sometimes it's just better to try, and fail than to never try at all

If I fail I'll be emailing you soon Rich, don't worry about that !

Jeroenn,

Did you mean this picture ?

The ones I need to replace are the style etc of the one on the far left.

That's a little odd - yours don't have the stud lock screws in them? *I think most LTDs had them. *Mebbe they ran out that week or something.

"LTD" as in ESP LTD? in that case, there are no stud locks for the Licensed Floyd, just plain studs.

Jester,

Mine have the stud locks, but it's hard to see in the pic link I posted

Snakepit,

Jester means my Ibanez 540R LTD
