How to do "antique brass" finish

A better hardware option IMO than gold on many guitars (like oiled wood finishes) would be antique brass. *You know, that dark, brushed look. *I figure that's never been offered because it would match a low % of finishes. *Or a low % of people - even housewares at Lowe's are tough to find in this, whereas bright brass is ubiquitous.

So, anyone know if gold can be modded to this? *I have a liquid solution that "antiques" brass, but don't want to blindly try it out on my gold parts (what is used for that, anyway? *they don't use REAL gold, right?)

How about electroplating ? you can get all kinds of finishes these days. Failing any sucess there, what about buying some gold look coat hooks or something from your hardware store and testing the aging material on that ?, or perhaps the underside of the tremolo where the test wont damage the look of the gold.

If you used the aging paint stuff, you could finish off your hardware with a matte or lustre protective clear coat.

Or, find a gold knob or something that's similar, and dip that. *MUCH CHEAPER THAN AN EDGE OR LO-PRO. *lol

I was gonna do it on my wife's hardtail SC620. *The gold is just too...bright. *If it worked, I was gonna find something "woody" to do it to - a s520 mebbe, or an s2020 (heh...there's a woody right there! ;-)

Gold Knob, find a woody ? hehehehehe

My axe is getting there Jester, I got rid of all the rust on the fine tuners and a few other bits and pieces. I sprayed it with gloss black then did a few coats of clear and they look better than new ones now. The tremolo still needs a new base before I can use the guitar but Brian is helping with that and Spiro has one available too.

I've given up on the blue wood stain for now, or any refinish for that matter. I'm sick of not being able to play my Radius as it is, let alone having to let a new finish cure etc
