I dunno how much to mix...

I know this has been talked about... but no one responded to me and I was kind of looking for a quick responce so I can get the ball rolling...

Me and my friend are gonna attempt to start doing our own swirl projects... of course we'll just be practicing on pieces of wood, etc... but I have just a few questions...

#1. I wanna order the Jacquard Airbrush (& Marbling) Colors in Green and Black... has anyone used this brand? Apparently it also works very good for swirling on wood. Only $10 bucks for 8 oz.

#2 The Carageenan stuff that jellys the top of the water to hold the paint... it's kind of expensive and I'm just wondering how much I'll actually need to do the project. They have it at $22.95 for 8 oz which makes 12 gallons and $41.95 for 24 oz which makes 24 gallons.
Will I need more than that? Is there something that works just as well that I can use that isn't so expensive... I tried that Borax crap, but I wanna experiment with different things.

Thanks!
-Jay

Hey Jay, nice to hear you're entering the amazing swirling world.
First, you says you and your friend will be starting to swirl some projects.
And praticing on wood pieces.

If you and your friend haven't swirled nothing just yet, why asking for brands and so?
I'm sure some paint would work for some, and don't for you.

Swirling wood pieces is completely diferent from the real deal, just because you'll need practise A LOT to reach the right amount of color on the water, just to name a few issues.
Swirling a skateboard uses 1/3 of the paint amount of swirling a guitar body: so the results will never be the same.

And: are you afraid of spending like 49,90 bucks in paints?
You should start thinking about spending 1000 or so only in paints, just to start.

The Borax thing:
i'm pretty sure there'are some swirlers that don't use it at all.

Anyway, get everythiing swirled and learn the tricks by yourself, and don't forget to post some pics!
Cheers,
Will.

Thanks for the reply dude!

I understand it will take money, I just wanna get it down with the right materials I guess... But you put it more realistic for me!

Your swirls look really great man! How many years have you been practicing?

I think I may just try ordering small quantities of stuff so I can play with the good stuff you know? I wanna start somewhere...
