I was thinking of changing my guitar from H-S-H to H-H-H... Please give your thoughts

So I have a black 20th anniversary RG550 with the stock pickups and have been thinking about replacement pickups. My problem is I never really like the single coil, so I am thinking about having a tech widen the hole to have an H-H-H configuration. Thinking about triple EMGs, but I am more interested in hearing what you think about the mod itself than which pickups to put in (although I would value opinions on that issue as well). I love the idea of having this configuration because it would yield more usable sounds to me (for metal and shred), and would be unique.

P.S. I completely trust this tech. He is the guy who works on all of Joe Satriani's guitars, and I'm completely serious.

Is it really all that bad? What are the main problems? Just the amount of alteration you need to do?

Why don't you get a single sized humbucker instead, go for the passives for that.

Well it doesn't look like it will happen now, 20th Anniversary or not.

I need a passive humbucker for metal rhythm and lead in a basswood guitar's bridge position.
