ibanez guitars with direct mount pickups

i just got my rg770fm that i bought from bduersch, its a awsome looking guitar. its the first ibanez guitar that has the direct mount pickups that i've owned. my question is are all the ibanez guitars with this feature just a screm and spring to the body? i have a few of my older rg570/560's with direct mounted pickups but still have the pickup rings. my pickups are mounted like george lynch and eddie vanhalen origionally did it with a brass spacer so that the pickup was really mounted solid to the body. just wondering if its that same on all models with the direct mount. i guess ibanez is doing it for cosmetic reasons. the reason george and eddie did it was because the pickup actually pulls on the strings and mounting the pickups solid to the body actually transfered the vibration of the wood to the pickups and the pickups vibrated with the strings giving better string responce and sustain. its very evident in the sound of the direct mount with the brass spacer compared to the screw with a spring. does everyone just leave it the way it is or do you make the spacers?

thanks, from what i've read i'm guessing that they are just mounted with springs. what i didn't find is anything about mounting them like eddie and george did. from reading i find that this is kinda a controversial topic but those who say it doesn't make a difference don't say that it was a true direct mount like george and eddie did to start this method. the difference between the pickup with the screw and spring is much different than the sound mounted with brass tube spacer. i don't want to start any arguements but those who say there is no difference should try it with the spacers and not with just springs and screws.

please read my origional post before jumping all over me, i did read past post but my post addresses the difference with direct mount with springs/screws compared to solid brass spacers. i agree that the difference with pickup rings and screw/springs is really little difference. i guess i just leave this subject alone because some will take it the wrong way.

Hey! Glad to hear that you got the 770 and dig it! I've had just about everything that Ibanez has ever produced with direct-mounted pickups (ok, that's probably not true, but I wish it was true). Anyway, none of the ones I've removed the pickups from have had brass spacers. Some have had springs, some haven't. Some have had foam under the pickups, some haven't (usually depends on how deeply they're routed).

Enjoy the 770!

thanks brent, that really what i was after. after reading the other post i couldn't find anything addressing the brass spacer thing. i have a really easy test for anyone wondering about this discussion. you don't need two guitars because the difference will be noticable. take your strings off your guitar, use a tuning fork and hit it on your knee and touch it to your guitar, then do the same with the pickup mounted solid with the brass tube spacers. you'll hear the hum of the fork through the pickup and the difference is really noticable, especially if you use something in your rack with a meter light.

small brass tubing, cut to fit. you can also cut them at a angle so the pickup stays at the same angle as the strings.
