Ideas for Inlays on a Dot Board - Turning dots into somethin
Hey all, I'm looking for suggestions on putting some cool inlays over the plain dots on my standard dot board. I've got an RG7620 in black, and it doesn't look very good next to my UV777GR. Right now I'm leaning towards little abalone diamonds.....but suggestions are appreciated. I don't want vines or pyramids on it, I want something more personal, plus my UV has multicolor pyramids already. Something small, like ovals or diamonds or something , I don't know. Thanks for your help

Ideas for Inlays on a Dot Board
I was thinking of replacing some dots on one of my guitars, and what I have in mind is better-looking dots.
I've got a load of those little Tiger's Eye stones you sometimes find at new age shops that sell crystals, in various colours (gold, red and blue). I'm going to borrow some tools from a friend when he returns from his holidays and see how they hold up when I grind them down to dots and polish them up.
As far as different shapes go, you could go for diamonds or stars, or perhaps squares or some other geometric shape.

Yeah replacing the dots with cooler ones is definetly an option. Originally I was going to just replace them with
abalone dots
, but different materials other than shell is a great idea. Now that I think about it the vine inlay may be an option, something to contrast my UV........

Bamm brings humor, but I like the idea. Besides, doesen’t Steve have a tune called “Lucky Charms”.

I can solve your problem with already having a guitar with flourescent pyramids, send me your MC!
Actually, here's one I thought was a neat idea, have eyeballs with the pupils at different stages of openning, like at the 3rd fret it is just a pin prick, and at the 21st fret it is wide open, actually, it would probably work better the other way around. *Then for 12 and 24, you could have 2 eyes. *they would need to be bigger than the standard dots, but "eye" think it would be cool.
Jeremy
BTW, if you want to send my your MC, e-mail me and I'll give you my address

OOPS, my bad, I saw multicolour and didn't notice pyramids behind it so *I assumed you had one of each.
No problem, I'd love a UV777GR too, just send that one over

Ideas for Inlays on a Dot Board
I've actally have gone for a few different inlays to replce the dots (at least up to the 12th fret). On one of my RG520s, I have a Fleur-de-Lis inlay (as pictured on Herc's site). On my other RG520, I have the Chinese character for "Troublemaker". On my next project, I will be using the chinese character for "Guitar".
Cheers,
Butch

Instead of standard inlays (front view):
• * • *• *• * • * *• * *• * • * •
3 **5 * 7 * 9 *12 *15 *17 19 21
You could do:
R *O *C *K * & * R *O * L * L
3 *5 * 7 *9 *12 *15 17 19 21
They don't have to be Roy Clark-sized; just small letters that fit inside the original dots.
Or....
You could do purple mirror like the inlay (singular) on the RG-ART. *I love that inlay.

Do a little string of planets (also looks like the optical string of pearls effect of a bright light through a camera lens), that is on the 12th fret of the
crystal planet
JS. *that is tres cool!

If you really wanna go nuts, you could change em to clear dots and put LEDs under em. *I've seen it done and it looks cool. *Of course, that would be really complicated, but if you did, you could put an on/off switch between the volume and tone, and maybe even have them blink. *Maybe even those LEDs that blink different colors. lol
