If I converted a Floyd to fixed bridge but with differet wood?

No... I'm not going to move out of floyds but I have a question...

You know how people would fill in a piece of wood in their floyd rose route then install a fixed bridge?

I wonder if you used a different wood fill would you have some drastic tone changes?

E.g. Mahogany fill in a basswood RG.

Anyone done this?

The tone change you would hear is the different bridge more so than the wood used to fill the cavity

for such a small piece of wood that probably isn't securely glued into place to resonate properly I'd say the tone change is minimal.

if you had the bridge resting on the block of wood and glued it into place really tight you'd notice a change in tone... but it wouldn't be because of what type of wood you used but just that you used wood to fill a hole and stabilize the bridge.

Id say theres gotta be a difference... kinda like the mysterious "Tone Block" in the new Ernie Balls (allegedly a piece of mahogany stuffed somewhere in the alder body)

Tone Block? If you look up "Tone Block" in the dictionary it says

"See also, Snake Oil"

Why don't you try it?

I put an oak block in my basswood 550. Did I notice a difference? Yes, but was it the wood or the bridge or the string thru or all of the above? I'd have to try different wood blocks and different attachment methods to compare. In either case it wasn't that drastic.
