i'm being an idiot

i'm trying to get my edge zero to be 100% parallel with the studs in floating mode, yet i can't get it.

i get close, but not quite parallel in normal tuning.

i don't usually deal with it in the full floating so can someone just help out? i know i'm doing something really stupid.

You've adjusted the spring tension as far as it will go then? If so, then usually the reason for this is you're using a thicker gauge of string, it sounds like somehow you have more tension than the trem was set up for. The solution would be to add another spring. (If I'm understanding the problem right, that is.)

no, no, i'm using the same guage, but i'm having the problem of "i tune one string and all the others go flat".

and you can't add springs to the edge zero.

Re: i'm being an idiot

Oh ok, got it now the answer is still really simple. As long as the trem is setup for the tuning and gauge of strings you're using, just keep tuning and it'll get there. You may want to try tuning this way: low E, high E, A string, B string... etc until you meet in the middle. Sort of helps even out the tension instead of tuning thickest to thinnest straight down. Yes, it takes a while to tune with a floating bridge and you have to tune multiple times to get there. You get quicker at it with experience.

yeah i know but, i can't get the trem to sit level. even at the highest spring tension, it's still raised above.

Loosen off the springs and start again. I used to have this problem when I started with floating trems, takes a while to get things in place. You are making sure that the knife edges are parallel with the body, and not the angled baseplate?

Re: i'm being an idiot

lol guys, you aren't familiar with the EZ i take.

yeah, i'm getting the actual knife edges parallel with the body. and on the EZ the knife edges and the baseplate are the same angle, the baseplate isn't like a lo-pro or an edge.

anyway, i think it's something to do with the actual springs themselves because when i bought the guitar, the trem was sitting waaaaaaaaay too high and i used to be able to get my other rg2550z trem 100% level in floating mode.

oh well, i put it back in ZPS mode.

So what exactly is the problem? If the knife edges are parallel then the angle is fine. Where are you in Canberra? If you need a hand I might be able to have a look at it for you.

the baseplate of the damn thing and the knife edge's are the same level, but i can't get them to be parallel to the studs.

it doesn't matter, i'm using ZPS mode now anyway and i'm gonna be selling/trading off this guitar for an unrelated issue soon anyway. i live in flynn btw.
