Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
Is this possible without routing? I've read conflicting comments regarding installing a floyd on a strat. Some say there's no need for routing, others say it has to be done. Are the stud widths the same? I'm really digging the style of the Iron maiden strats, and I'd be willing to try the setup if it was possible with no routing. I was thinking of getting a maple
warmoth neck
for my strat anyway, and if this was possible, I'd just get one with a
locking nut
and try the floyd . . . or maybe get a cheapo Edge 3 from someone swapping theirs out.

Not all Floyd Roses are exactly identical, maybe there is a licensed one that is the same as the Strat one. However, just going by Warmoth, the posts are substantially different and the shape looks a bit different.

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
use a dremel and open up the hole a tb to fit the trem sustain block in there and at least for diving motion
either reuse or fill the existing trem stud anchor holes after removing the anchors
re mesure and redrill for new fr anchors and set the bridge high and youll need to either route the
neck angle
or use some wood wedge to do a shim
ive plyed soem charvels old onea that were like strat bodies with a fr right on top..you might have to do a slight dremeling to fit the fr rocker arms that the fine tuners control but all in all it will look like a regular
strat body
with a fr on it

Buy one meant for a strat. They are all over the bay.

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
There's no way I'm gonna cut into my strat. I mean I'd give it a shot if it was simply a matter of getting the bridge, changing the studs etc. etc.
Now im wondering about Floyd-style bridges that fit the strat rout. Yeah looking at the Warmoth site the posts are in a different position. But someone must sell a floyd-style bridge that would retro-fit a strat. Anyone know of a specific manufacturer/bridge that would do the job?

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
Hey thanks for the info. That's a sweet bridge. Do you use it with
locking tuners
? I mean my plan, ideally, was to get a neck with a locking nut, then tune it up and lock the strings down. But I guess you need fine-tuners for that . . . I suppose I could just get some locking tuners, and a
graphite nut
to stop the strings from binding. You've got the gears in my head spinning Cosmic.

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
Both of my Strat Plus's have roller nuts. One being a Wilkenson and one being a LSR. With locking tuners and properly stretched strings I can dive like mad and stay in tune very well. I don't normally go dive crazy but from time to time I slack the strings a bit. One note, LSR nuts are a tad better because it allows you to use a greater variety of
string gauges
where the Wilk limits you.
My first floyd equiped quitar was a Kramer Focus 1000 with a Floyd with no fine tuners and locking nut. You had to learn to tune/adjust for the
locking nuts
move the strings sharp or flat.
To put a lockiong nut on a Fender that does not already have one you need to do some cutting/filing. A LSR nut if properly installed will drop right in after you remove the bone/plastic nut. If I were to do that I would have it professionally done to avoid any uh-ohs or unexpected problems if you know what I mean. .

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
Yeah true. That'd be a headache I wouldn't want. I don't think Warmoth makes necks with the LSR nut though. I'll go check it out now. If not I could always get it put in after.

Re: Installing a dive-only floyd in a strat . . .
I think Warmoth does offer a roller nut option, or at the very least will route for one.
Personally, I think the Gotoh
Wilkinson trem
is the best bridge of any design, locking or otherwise, I've ever played, so that's worth a look too.
