installing a trem

hey

i need some help here please..

i have a guitar that i want to put an Edge in and it has a fixed bridge on it

i will have to route it out and was wonderin (since i have never attempted anything like this)

wher to start..im a machinist, so i have all the necessary machinery to get it done

can it be done by measuring my other guitar with an edge in it and get the dimensions that way..or is it more complex than that

what do i need to make sure i do as well as not do

remember this is my first attempt at this and dont want to scrap the guitar w/ a mistake

any help would be greatly appreciated

I see the Jemsite-wide conspiracy to avoid answering your question worked.
Good work guys.

Oh, okay, Cid, now I feel all guilty, what with dissin' Linkin Park and all that....... Have a look at StewMac's website, I think they do a set of Floyd Rose trem routing templates for not enormous money - I've done top recessed routing for Floyds by hand, but you need nerves of steel and a very sharp router bit! The spring cavity and hole for the block I wouldn't even attempt without templates!

There are templates around. The thing with asking a question it depends who's online that knows their stuff. There are helpful people around.
I'm sure alot of people have some questions unanswered,me included

Re: installing a trem

definitely get those templates. and also I think, since this is your first time, try doing it on a lump of wood first.
also read this: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/trs2lopro.htm
it's not exactly what you want to do but it is related.
