Is it safe to drill a couple of holes in the trem block?

I would like to try something like the tremolo 'fixing' in the tech section:

but instead of the wooden block, I want to use a piece of metal, screwed to the wood thru the block. (for instance, 2 screws in the spaces among the 3 springs).

I think it would be very well 'fixed', and I think the trem block shouldn't have any trouble with 2 holes, but I prefer to ask the experts first. Any opinions?

it's safe and should create no trouble. you might want to use a drill press for drilling accuracy as these are tough to drill ...glen

So you think it's a good idea? (I'd take it to a shop anyway, I wouldnt get near my guitars with a powerful drill! )

i would not worry about it breaking. you can always buy a replacement block anyways

i don't see how it will be more "fixed" than using a wood block but either way everything is reversible. the biggest problem is getting the metal block the correct thickness to get an appropriate bridge angle. then the new block would be threaded i guess and accept a small bolt that goes thru the trem block... glen

You could also drill AND tap the block, and use 2 bolts to butt up against the inside of the cavity. Then you could adjust the bridge angle and/or unlock it with the turn of a screw.
