Is my new 1077XL a lemon?

I just got an RG1077XL from ******** (and probably the last one), and the high string comes a bit close to the edge of the fretboard. At the 1st fret, it's 1/16" from where the fret is rounded off, and at the 24th fret, it's 1/32" from where the fret is rounded off. It seems to me that the bridge isn't centered properly. Am I expecting too much? I'm not sure because this is my first Ibanez. Also, there's a chip in the finish underneath the edge of the fretboard, where it hangs over the neck joint.

I'm really worried . I love the look and the sound of this guitar. I love the long neck and having seven strings. But this might be the ONLY new RG1077XL I will ever find, and it's messed up! Or am I being too demanding?

Many thanks for any help!

OOPS! RG1077XL wanted (maybe)

My apologies. I posted the last message to the wrong forum . This is what happens when I have two windows open simultaneously.

I guess it's premature to say, but I may be looking for an RG1077XL, if the retailer I'm dealing with can't come through with a replacement for the one I bought.

Again, sorry for the mess-up.

not surprising, since they don't inspect the guitars they ship... but... anyways...

this is very likely not the trem, rather the neck pocket shifting... this has been discussed in the forum before (if you search). Quick recap: make sure the trem is properly set on the posts (not touching either ends). Next, make sure the NUT is centered. Now the fix... loosen the 4 AANJ neck screws a 1/4-1/2 turn each, then you need to set the neck by pushing it so as to center the strings on the fretboard... while re-tightening. Easier to do than explain. Hopefully the neck pocket is nice and tight (not sloppily routed w/ excess clearance)... glen

I'm guessing you're referring to the dealer.

As a point of interest,

Do as Glen suggested, it's likely that the neck is crooked, not a big issue.
the trem won't be off center, having talked with Hoshino about neck holes, trem holes and compatibility between hardware/necks etc, they are ALL done with the same CNC programs and jigs.

That being the case, and the way a CNC program would run when doing the trem route and drilling for the posts, if your trem was out of alignment, every RG, JEM, Prestige, JE custom, and everything else with that body shape would be offset too. you'd be surprised how very little it will take in moving the neck to straighten things.

as for the chip, that is something that QC and teh dealer missed, the offset strings is just a set up issue.

I see you tried to search. Did you get "zero posts match" or "5,482 posts match"? That's what I thought....

Glen's suggestion is correct, but also- you might want to loosen the strings a full step, or pull one spring out of the back of the trem while you're re-aligning the neck. Tension is good, but too much tension will make it harder on you (and the wood).
$10 says it got shifted in shipping. Didn't happen to come UPS, did it? :-)

If there's a gap there, ask to return it. If you feel hearty enough to work on it yourself, a quick fix involves cutting a piece of business card in there to fill the gap (on the appropriate side).

Thanks, guys

Thank you all for the help . I apologize for the redundant question, I just had no idea what to put into the search engine.

It worked!

It worked! I'm not worried about the chip, so I don't have to send it back.

Thanks again, everyone .
