Is there a way to "thicken" a neck?
Suppose you have a neck, and for some reason it feels
too
thin... other than building a new one, would it be possible to add thickness by changing the board to a thicker piece?
For example, if you wanted to go from maple to rosewood (or ebony) and picked a slab thats bigger than the previous maple board, would the whole feel of the neck be affected?

no but your action and playability would..
Its not possible there is only one way, trade it for something your like, or buy a new neck.

How much thicker are you talking? If it's a small amount, you could have new layers of clear added to the back of the neck to thicken it up. But really, you'd probably be better off just trading your existing neck, or getting a custom made. --Jason.

Re: Is there a way to "thicken" a neck?
It depends on the thickness of the board. I have a Wizard neck here without the board, and when I re-board it, it'll have a much thicker board. So it will then convert to something of a Wizard II. Also .058 tall
jumbo frets
will make it feel thicker front to back, but affect the way it feels to fret as well, giving off a more scalloped feel than say, a typical .046-.050 jumbo. But re-boarding is a huge operation, and the only reason I'm doing this Wizard is because it was water damaged and the board was 2/3rds removed already (and the
scarf joint
was opened up, too!) I wouldn't do it to a perfectly good neck. It's easier to get another neck, or even get a cheaper neck that's in very poor condition with worn out frets.
You could also tape a 1/16" piece of wood to your thumb! Think about that one for a minute! LOL

leave it in a swimming pool or something full of water for some time.
it will become thicker... and as useful as a cardboard-made neck

I'd be interested in this as well...
Are there any companies out there that can build a neck VERY similar in feel to the old
JPM neck
profile?

Try doing shrugs, heavy weight, low reps. Should do the trick.
