jem777sk setup

Hi there
i have just cleaned my new jem777sk that a bourght the other day, i havend played it yet.
Today i put new string on it, but seems to have a little problem to adjust the floyd rose.
My system is put up with 3 springs, but is seems like that is a bit to few. Can someone tell how many springs they have in their sk.
If i wants to put one more spring in, does it then have to be a special one, or can i just take one from a nother guitar, that i have laying around. Hope someone can help me

Re: jem777sk setup

If you want you can just take a spring from another guitar, that'll work. Also, the higher the string gauge the more tension there will be on the tremolo, so you might need to add more springs.

Re: jem777sk setup

Have you screwed the claw screws in further? This will increase the tension much like an extra spring. I only have 3 springs in any of my jems. Like stated above, the string gauge is also a factor, but unless you are using super heavy strings you shouldn't need more than 3 springs.

PS- As always, go through this from beginning to end...

Re: jem777sk setup

Hi, and thanks for your advice
some quest: Whats the claw screw? if its the 2 screw ther sit on the behind of the guitar, where the springs also sit, i have pulled them nearly totaly in the wood. dont know how much i can screw them in befor breaking anything.
Can u tell me how the trem should sit, couse this kind of trem is diff from the one on my BFP. Shold the bottumline be parallel to the body or the upper line?
I also tryed to put the trem a little more down in the guitar, but seems i cant turn the 2 screws ther hold it. I like the strings come closer to the fret. hmmm
hope u can help, thanks

Hi, try adding another spring. Here's a tip a picked on the net: 1) Place some cards so that the sweet spot, with knife edges of the trem lay flat/parallel; 2) Loosen the springs so that the card are the only thing that don't let the trem sway forward; 3) Tune the guitar to desired pitch; 4) Gradually tighten the springs, checking tuning and adjusting accordingly; 5) when the springs are up to correct tension the cards should fall out, the strings should be in pitch or close and the trem should be at the desired angle; 6) Make slight adjustments to the bridge springs and the strings and you should be set.

P.S. If I were you I'd add another spring or get 3 higher tension springs. This works for me although the first times I didn't wait for the cards to fall and the trem rose up so just tighten the springs and tune the strings until the cards fall out.

Good luck, regards
Nelson

No... The knifeedge seen on the side of the trem should be parallel not the trem itself.

Read the tech setup in the link given above.

this is the part with trem angle, you should look at the edge/lo-pro section =)

Re: jem777sk setup

Hi, check out the tech setup at ibanezrules. What has to sit parallel is neither the top nor the bottom, it's the knife edges, those blades that you can see on either side of the trem, those have to be parallel to be in the correct position...

Regards,
Nelson

P.S. Use my card trick it works....
