Re: JPM neck question

Hi. Your English is fine.
I have sanded down a few necks with no problems. You will only be sanding a little anyway, right?
You could also just replace it with a Wizard as thh JPM could sell for a lot of $$$$.

Re: JPM neck question

it will never become a wizard...btw I don't think you can go too far with the sanding. The Wizard is so thin, that it needs a special reinforcing beam next to the trussrod.

Re: JPM neck question

i've looked on the internet and can't find a cross-cut view of the JPM(viper) neck, so i'm not sure how much room for sanding you have. I would imagine that it uses the same truss rod system as the wizard though, but i am only guessing. anybody know?
I would guess that you only need to remove a little bit of material. The nut width is different on the PGM than a wizard too. i still say to replace it with a Wizard if you are not happy with it and save the original incase you ever sell the guitar.

The wizard doesn't use the same construction, it has a circular trussrod in the bottom of the shaft and a rectangular beam on top.

The '97 JPM is derived from the relatively thick Ultra neck: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1997/index.htm
For '98 it's the Viper neck: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1998/index.htm

Re: JPM neck question

I had JPM P4 and it had the viper neck so I thought all the JPMs had the viper. I didn't realize that some had the Ultra. I had the Ultra on my RG2020 and got rid of it because it was NOTHING like a wizard. HUGE! the Viper was pretty nice though. Thanks for the info EVILTWIN.

Sers. Which neck do you have? What year and model is your JPM?

Re: JPM neck question

You would probably be happier with the Viper. It is not as thin as the wizard, but not as fat as the Ultra. Really quite comfortable. I sold my P4 because it was just too light, but I loved how it played! I like my guitars to be on the heavier side. Not Les Paul heavy but on the heavy side of the basswood scale.
Sounds like you're liking the Ultra anyway...I played on my ultra for a little while and I did like it, but as soon as I went back to the Wizard, I didn't want to go back to the Ultra.

Re: JPM neck question

I will buy you a wizard neck anytime to swap for your JPM;-) And I swapped my ultra on the 2020 for a JPM neck.

Re: JPM neck question

Hello Tony, well after being playing for a while, i can say i`m comfortable with both necks now. I still like the wizard better, but i think i should be able to play with any ibanez neck (Ultra, Viper, Wizard I & II).
What kind of guitar player only can play in One Kind of neck???!!!! I guess one very bad!!!
could you post a picture of your 2020, i would love see it.

Re: JPM neck question

I have both a UCEW with an Ultra neck and an SV470 with a Viper neck (although in the scale of 24.75" and with 22 frets) and the viper is thicker, smaller and toyish. After holding the ultra, it feels awkward to play the SV...
