I've had my Jem 7VWH for, more or less, 6 months. It still plays excelent but i "decided" that i want to lower the action.

I have about 2.1 mm at the low E string and 2 mm at the high E string (it just came with that setup from the factory). It plays excellent, but i think that with a lower action it would be even better...
This will be my first atempt to set-up a guitar like this (i've owned a F*nder Strat for years) so i looked at the Tech section of Jemsite. And i read this:
"Step 2:
Tremolo Bridge Height
(...) There is often discussion on never having the tremolo intact when setting the stud height. The thought is to not have pivot point contact as it can cause wear on the posts or knive edge contact. If you want to adjust the tremolo height with 100% security, quickly pop off the tremolo (w/ strings attached), adjust the tremolo posts as above, install, retune & retest. "
What does this mean? Can't i just adjust the tremolo without removing it? And i don't remove it, can the procedure cause any damage to the guitar?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but this will be my first try to set-up a Jem...
