Killswitch ala Buckethead, that Korn guy....

Hey peeps!
So, does anyone know how i'd go about wiring one of those temporery killswitches into my RG 7s? I'm talking about the one Buckethead has been sporting lately, as well as the new guy in Korn. It's really freaking sweet, and it seems like it would be an easy mod.
Any help will be mondo appreciated! Where i can get the part, how i wire it in, etc... i'd probably like to just yank my tone pot out and put the switch in the remaining hole.

You can get a similar effect with a 2 volume pot setup. Turn one volume knob all the way down and the toggle switch effectively becomes a kill switch. The oldest i can remember is hearing randy rhoades do this on live stuff, although its possible more people did before. If you really wanna know i suggest asking over at projectguitar.com forum.

Yeah, but doing the above method is a pain for the toggle and doesn't quite work as well as the momentary kill switch.

I'd like to know how to do that as well actually, since I can see how it would be a cool mod for one of my axes...

That method works very well imo. Been doing it like that for years. I dont know if their are schematics around for something like this to be honest though.

its an "normal open" spring switch, you have to short the live and and ground wires, and thats that

Im not sure what those switches are called in english, but its the type that doesnt click into position, when you stop pushing it comes right back up...

These switches have two poles, what you need to do is solder one to the ground, and the other one to the live signal (the one that goes from the volume pot to the jack) so that when you push, you short the circuit... its gotta be a "normal open" switch so that you short when you push, if its "normal closed" itll be shorted always, and only give you sound when you push...

Im at work right now, cant draw you a diagram, but do a search on killswitch diagrams, and thats what you need, only with this "special" kinda switch...

the "special" switch is a momentary contact toggle switch.
the other sort being a latching type of switch.. which stays put wherever you last set it.

youll find it in radio shack or whatever as a "NO (normally open) double pole momentary contact toggle switch"
